Fathers’ Day Gift Giving Guide

Fathers Day Gift Ideas

Father’s Day is just around the corner and in our house homemade gifts are a huge hit. Something hand made with love is worth more than any gift you could every buy at the store, and the memories of the gift and of the fun in making it will last for years to come. This year I’m doing a 2 part series full of fun gift ideas the kiddos [with your help :) ] can make dad, grandpa, or whomever that special father figure in their life is. All of these crafts can be created for minimal cost and in a few hours time at most. If you’ve followed my blog for a while or you follow me on Pinterest you’ve probably seen some of these, but there’s plenty of new crafty gift ideas to come too!

“Someday We Hope To Fill Your Shoes Dad (Grandfather, Uncle, Whomever….insert loved one here)”

Supplies:
  • Frame with a border*
  • Pictures of kids dressed in dads’ shoes & clothes
  • Marker or Alphabet stickers

Dress your kids up in dads clothes and shoes and then take pics…Make sure you can see the shoes in each pic! Another idea would be to just get the kids feet (in the grown-ups shoes of course) in the photo. Print your pics, then have the kids write (or use your ABC stickers) on the border “Someday We Hope To Fill Your Shoes Dad!” and if there’s room, “Happy Fathers Day, 2013″.

*For this project I found the frame and letter stickers at the local drug store. There’s no need to go out a buy a pricey frame – it’s the pictures that make this such a great gift. Also, if you can’t find a frame with a border, type your quote, cut it out, then glue the cut out piece of paper to your picture, or attach your ABC letters directly to the pic.

Handprint Words

Supplies:

  • 1 Black Posterboard
  • Pictures
  • Glue Stick or Tape
  • Frame

We made each letter with my hands and arms, and each picture is it’s own letter. I made all the letter pics black & white before printing and left the family pictures in color so they would pop. Then the printed pics were glued to the piece black poster board, framed, and voila!

*I used my hands to make the letters because the boys were wiggly but if the kids will make the letters have them do it.

Handprint Art

Supplies:

  • 3 sheets of construction paper (or colored paper)
  • Scissors
  • Glue or glue stick
  • Letter stickers or a marker

Fold 1 sheet of construction paper in 1/2. Trace one of your childs’ hands onto the paper then cut along your trace lines (you should have 2 hand prints – I traced and cut mine along the fold so that my hand prints were connected by the thumb and the pointer finger). Take another sheet of paper and cut out a heart approximately the size space between the thumb and pointer). Write (or spell out with your ABC stickers) “I Love You” or “Happy Fathers Day”. Glue your hand prints to the final sheet of paper then glue the heart on top, just like in pic above.

*If you take your final product, fold it in 1/2, and write a message on the outside as well and now your picture has turned into a card to go with your gits!

Does your hubby like a sport or have a hobby? Take tons of pics of your kids doing what dad loves and frame it :)

Supplies:

  • Picture Frame (any size you like)
  • Posterboard (cut to fit inside frame)
  • Pictures (See below*)
  • Double sided tape or a glue stick

Tape or glue your pictures to your posterboard to create a collage. I like straight lines so I didn’t cut my pics, just overlapped a few, but you could cut them into any shape(s)/size(s) that you want. Get creative with it, just don’t leave any blank spaces on your posterboard. Then frame and you’re set.

If you don’t want your pictures to overlap you could use a black posterboard, then when you glue your pictures down leave an equal size space around each picture to create individual borders within the collage (maybe 1/8-1/4 inch of space around each picture). Then place posterboard in frame.

*For the pictures used in this project – My walls were already painted blue, all I did was cut a circle for the sun and some cloud shapes out of white printer paper, painted the sun yellow (with the boys fingerpaints…hey, it’s all about using what you have on hand!), taped it all to the wall, then I covered the floor with a piece of material to look like water. Next up, I bribed the boys with French fries to sit on the surfboard and tickled them to get the smiles, snapped a few pics, and hit print. If you already have pics on hand use them, hubby doesn’t have a hobby, use family pictures instead, there are so many options, just make sure you have enough pics to cover your posterboard.

While all of these are fantabulous gifts on there own most dads love sweets, so package your gift with some homemade munchies or maybe even breakfast in bed! {Need recipes, check these out} – Also, sorry for the cruddy picture quality, but I hope you’ve enjoyed these gift ideas and that they can help you solve your shopping /gift giving dilemmas….Be sure to check back soon for part 2 in this Fathers Day Gift Giving Series!

For this one my walls were already painted blue. I painted a circle of paper yellow for the sun and cut clouds out of computer paper, taped it all to the wall and covered the floor with material to look like water. I bribed the boys with French fries to sit on the board and tickled them to get the smiles.

With Father’s Day around the corner do you need a last minute gift idea? I’m a huge fan of the kids making gifts and this was what we made their dad 3 years back. It’s still one of my favorites.

“Someday We Hope To Fill Your Shoes Dad”

All you have to do is dress your kids up in dads clothes and take pics…make sure you can see the shoes in each pic. I found the frame and letter stickers at the local drug store, if your kids can write have them write it.
